Our Story

Goingmake® was founded in 2008 by a lifelong woodworker named John Smith. As a hobbyist furniture maker and home renovator, John was frustrated by the limitations of shop tools and jigs on the market. He decided to take matters into his own hands and design the tools he wished he had.

John’s first product was a table saw crosscut sled that delivered smooth, splinter-free cuts with incredible accuracy. As he shared his sled design online, other woodworkers started asking John to make jigs for them too. He started taking custom orders from his two-car garage workshop in Nashville, Tennessee.

Word spread quickly about John’s thoughtfully designed tools. Goingmake® soon expanded from a humble one-man operation into a team of woodworking enthusiasts. We opened our first manufacturing warehouse in 2010 to meet growing demand.

Today, Goingmake® offers over 50 products designed to streamline common woodworking tasks. Our catalog includes table saw jigs, router jigs, band saw accessories, specialty clamps, adjustable workbenches, and more. While John no longer fills orders from his garage, our company is still guided by his values of creativity, precision, and problem-solving.

We don’t just import and rebrand generic tools. Here at Goingmake®, we control the design and production process from start to finish.

It all begins in our Nashville design workshop. Our team of mechanical engineers and woodworking craftsmen collaborate to conceptualize solutions to common shop problems.

Hundreds of prototypes are built and tested before a final design is approved for market release. We refuse to launch a new product until we’ve refined it to meet our strict standards.

Once a design is finalized, it moves to our state-of-the-art manufacturing facility just down the road. We blend automation and hand-assembly to transform raw materials into exceptional woodworking tools.

Meet Our Founder John Smith

Goingmake® has come a long way from its origins in a home garage, but we’ve never lost sight of our founder’s guiding vision.

John Smith grew up in the small town of Murfreesboro, Tennessee. He fondly remembers his grandfather’s woodshop, where he first discovered the joy of making things with his own two hands.

After studying mechanical engineering in college, John pursued a career in manufacturing. However, he never lost his lifelong passion for woodworking. He spent his free time building furniture, renovating his home, and mastering the skills of the craft.

Despite his best efforts, John found many of the commercially available jigs and accessories frustrating. They lacked the features and precision he needed for his projects. He knew he could design better solutions.

In 2008, John combined his engineering expertise and woodworking experience to launch Goingmake®. He was determined to develop tools that lived up to the needs of discerning hobbyists and professionals.

Today, John still oversees new product development and testing. However, he now leads a dedicated team that shares his high standards. John works closely with engineers and production staff to ensure every new design upholds the Goingmake® commitment to quality, innovation, safety, and service.
